Terms of Use

Last updated: October 28, 2026

These Terms of Use ("these Terms") set out the conditions for using the iOS app ATTIC ("the App"), provided by alps.tokyo ("the Developer"). They apply together with Apple's Standard License Agreement for App Store apps (Apple Standard EULA). By using the App, you agree to these Terms.

1. Copyright and copy control

(1) Play, save and share videos, programs, images, subtitles and other content ("Content") with the App only if you own the rights to it, have permission from the rights holder, or are allowed to by copyright or other law (such as copying for private use).

(2) Watching TV programs and scheduling recordings are limited to private use, within what you yourself are entitled to receive and record.

(3) The App has no function to circumvent, remove or disable copy control, access control, DRM or any other technological protection measure. Content protected by such measures is neither played nor saved. Do not use the App to circumvent such protection, and do not play or save with the App any copy you know was made by circumventing it.

(4) Do not save with the App any Content you know was uploaded or distributed unlawfully.

(5) Beyond private use, do not copy, transmit to the public (including posting on social media or the web), screen, distribute, sell or share Content or still images taken from it.

(6) The Developer does not check or manage the Content you handle or the rights to it. Any dispute arising from your breach of this section is yours to resolve at your own responsibility and cost, and you will compensate the Developer for any damages it suffers as a result.

(7) To report an infringement concerning the App or its website, please use the contact in Section 18.

2. Your data

Saving and deleting copies affects only the copies inside the App. Removing an item from the App does not delete the original. Please keep your own copies of videos that matter to you.

3. Compatibility

Some videos may not play or save, depending on their format, your NAS or other devices, and network conditions. Updates or changes to iOS, your device, the devices and servers you connect to, or third-party services may make all or part of the App unusable. You bear the cost of the device, network connection, data charges and anything else needed to use the App.

4. Servers you connect to

The App does not provide any NAS, recording server or other server to connect to. Preparing, setting up and managing those devices and servers, and following the conditions that apply to them (including the terms of each device and service), are your responsibility.

5. Scheduled recordings

Scheduling and recording are carried out by the server you connect to, and their results depend on that server. For damages caused by a missed recording, the Developer is liable only to the extent set out in Section 10.

6. Paid features

If paid features are offered, their content and price will be shown in the App Store. Purchases, cancellations and refunds are governed by Apple's terms and procedures. Except where required by law, the Developer does not refund payments directly.

7. Open source software

The App uses open source software, including MobileVLCKit. Each license can be viewed in the App's settings.

Nothing in these Terms restricts the rights granted by those open source licenses to use, modify and redistribute, or to reverse engineer for debugging such modifications. You may also modify and relink the App for your own use in order to use a modified version of an open source library. The corresponding source code and relinking materials are available here.

8. Your responsibilities

Use the App in compliance with the law, public order and morals, and the rights of others (including copyright). Any dispute between you and a third party arising from your use of the App is yours to resolve, at your own responsibility and cost.

9. No warranty

The App is provided as is. The Developer makes no warranty, express or implied, that the App is accurate, complete, useful, continuously available, fit for a particular purpose or secure, that it is free of defects or interruptions, or that it works with every device, video format or server.

10. Limitation of liability

(1) Except in cases of the Developer's intent or gross negligence, the Developer is not liable for damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, the App.

(2) Notwithstanding (1), where the Developer is liable under the Consumer Contract Act of Japan or other laws, the Developer's liability for damages caused by its ordinary (not gross) negligence is limited to ordinary and direct damages actually incurred, up to the total amount you actually paid for the App in the 12 months before the event that caused the damages.

(3) In cases of ordinary negligence, the Developer is not liable for damages arising from special circumstances, lost profits, loss of or damage to data (including videos, playback positions, history, recordings and settings), or damages caused by the devices, servers or networks you connect to or by third-party services.

(4) This section does not apply in cases of the Developer's intent or gross negligence, or where the law does not allow liability to be limited.

11. Changes to and ending of the App

The Developer may change the App, or suspend or end its availability. For damages this causes you, the Developer is liable only to the extent set out in Section 10.

12. Prohibited conduct

When using the App, do not:

13. Support and updates

The Developer has no obligation to fix defects, provide updates, answer enquiries or give any other support. Support for older versions of the App or of iOS may end without notice.

14. Force majeure

The Developer is not liable when it cannot provide the App because of natural disasters, fire, power outages, failures of communication lines or carriers, suspension of or changes to third-party services such as Apple's, changes in law, or any other cause beyond its reasonable control.

15. Changes to these Terms

The Developer may change these Terms in accordance with the law. Before a change takes effect, the Developer will announce the new Terms and the date they take effect on this page, a reasonable time in advance. If you use the App on or after that date, you agree to the changed Terms.

16. Governing law and jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. The district court with jurisdiction over the Developer's address has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute about the App.

17. Severability

If any part of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable under the law, the rest remains in effect.

18. Contact

Please use the form on the support page.

If the Japanese and English versions differ, the Japanese version prevails.
